Recipe: Oven Baked Apple Chips
I love snacks that are sweet and crunchy. I won’t say no to a salty snack either, but if I were offered these Oven Baked Apple Chips vs. Potato Chips, I’d pick the Oven Baked Apple Chips every single time. They have a nice crunch to them and slightly sweet presence. I love them They’re not difficult to make either. They take a bit of time in the oven to dry out, but it’s well worth the time. All you need to do is set a timer and go on with your day. There’s not a lot of babysitting going on with these.
What I like most about this snack recipe is that it is on the healthy side. I know all of the ingredients and I can feel good about them all. You can make these without the cinnamon sugar too…or just

Ingredients: Apples, Oil, Ground Cinnamon and Granulated Sugar. <picture to come>
Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). <picture to come>
Prepare your baking sheets with parchment paper or silpat liners. I used a silpat liner for my pans. Set aside. <picture to come>
Combine the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar in a small bowl. Set aside. <pictures to come>
Wash well 2 medium to large apples. I chose a slightly sweet apple, the Pink Lady. You can choose virtually any apple you like, it just needs to be firm (not over-ripe.) <pictures to come>
Next you need to slice the apples very thinly. If you trust yourself to cut thin, use a sharp knife and a steady hand. I used a mandoline and was extra careful. Mandolines are extra handy, however very sharp. If you get moving too fast you can lose a finger tip quickly. I use a steel glove to prevent cuts. I’ve learned the hard way. <pictures to come>
NOTE: If your oven and pans are large enough, you may fit 2 apples in one oven. I was unable to do that. I just sliced one apple at a time. Just halve the ingredients and away you go.
Place the thin slices of apples in a large mixing bowl. Distribute the oil over the slices and spread in a single layer on the sheet pan. <pictures to come>
Carefully sprinkle each slice with a bit of cinnamon and sugar, if desired. You may decide to go the healthier route and omit the sugar. Cinnamon is a nice add though. I suggest keeping that ingredient either way. <pictures to come>
Place the prepared apple slices in the preheated oven at 200°F (93°C) for 2-3 hours. I had my slices in the oven for 2 1/2 hours. Time depends on the juiciness of the apple and the humidity of the kitchen.
You can tell when they are done because the rubber texture goes away. If you are unsure, test one by removing from the oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes. If it is done drying, it will be crisp and crunchy. If not, place the pan back in the oven for another 20 minutes and repeat the test/check.
These Oven Baked Apple Chips are a great snacking alternative for you and your family. Won’t you give this one a try?
